Westerhill Homes by Chartway were delighted to welcome Mrs Jackie Alliss, wife of the late Peter Alliss, professional golfer, author, and BBC Commentator to our Pebble Gate Place development in Sandwich, Kent.
With such long association with golf and the British Open periodically hosted in Sandwich, the Group’s Design & Technical team thought naming the new street at their development was a fitting tribute for Peter. They approached Mrs Alliss, who kindly consented to the road name of Alliss Gardens.
Pebble Gate Place is almost build complete, so we were delighted to invite Mrs Alliss to visit us, for a tour of the development, and to see the street signs in place.
Joined by her daughter-in- law Kelly Alliss, and family friend former BBC Director Alistair Scott, our team showed them a completed home, around the development and then they visited the two street signs bearing the Alliss surname.
Mrs Alliss said ‘I am so pleased that Westerhill Homes by Chartway approached me with this idea, Peter would have been delighted to see his name on the street sign. He loved the area so much and was always so happy when visiting Sandwich for the golf. Tributes like this are a wonderful and a lasting memorial which we can share with our family, it is very special. The development is lovely, and the open spaces give a real feeling of a new community emerging. We will visit Alliss Gardens again, when we come back to Sandwich, so we can see how everything has matured.’
Jon Woollerton, Head of Technical & Design at Chartway Group said ‘Peter Alliss was a legend in the golfing world, and it seemed so appropriate to name the street in Sandwich, after him. We are very grateful to Mrs Alliss for her kindness in letting us honour Peter. It is so much more meaningful if we can select street name which has a link to the local area, and we think Alliss Gardens is an attractive address for our new residents at Pebble Gate Place.’
